Virtual Event: Beth Wood in Conversation with Kim Stafford

  • 252 W Hood Ave Sisters, OR, 97759 USA (map)

Poet and singer-songwriter Beth Wood follows up her award-winning poetry book Ladder To The Light with Believe The Bird, a collection of forthright, shimmering poems that examine the stories we tell ourselves. Some stories are true, some may no longer be true. Some are based on history, cultural messages, direct experience. What if we examine the stories we tell ourselves to see if they resonate with who we are now? What if we allow our inherent wisdom to override messages that no longer serve us? When is a story good and when is it harmful? What if we get to decide what narratives work for us? Believe The Bird is a book full of questions in the form of poems, pointing to the wisdom of the bird in hand.

Beth Wood has been writing, creating, recording, and touring full-time for twenty-four years —delighting and inspiring audiences with her exceptional musicianship, intelligent songwriting, powerhouse voice, and warm and commanding stage presence. Beth has released twelve solo albums, one duo project album, three books of poetry, and a collection of funny stories from the road. Beth’s poetry book Ladder To The Light (Mezcalita Press) is the winner of the 2019 Oregon Book Awards People’s Choice Award. Beth’s work has expanded to include teaching and song coaching as well as leading workshops at festivals, songwriting retreats and beyond. Beth lives in Sisters, OR and is continuously writing and rewriting her artist’s manifesto. Beth has immersed herself in the northwest music community through her work on staff with the Sisters Folk Festival Americana Song Academy and as long-time host of the Sisters Folk Festival Sunday Community Celebration. Beth’s dream is to build community through music and to move something with her art, whether it’s a swirling emotion, a curious mind, or tapping feet. Her mission is to communicate the joy she feels when she opens her mouth and sings. Beth’s musical philosophy is that there are no wrong notes.
