A bear fishing for salmon at Brooks Falls is an iconic scene of wild Alaska. The Bears of Brooks Falls captures the intertwined story of brown bears, salmon, and people at this unique place. 

 In 1912, a colossal volcanic eruption catalyzed efforts to establish Katmai National Park. Since then, bears have become the park’s most famous inhabitants. Journey to Brooks River and explore the complex lives of brown bears and salmon in one of North America’s last fully intact ecosystems. Yet, not even a place as remote as Katmai is free from humanity’s influence. This book presents a natural history and celebration of brown bears and salmon as well as a deep dive into the evolving role of people in America’s national parks.
